Happy Friday Families! We have had a week! We enjoyed learning about winter weather and starting to learn about how snow is made. In math we continued on measuring with non-standard objects. We are also working on the teens numbers. We are practicing counting on to the teen numbers (like starting with 10 instead of 1), using tens frames and base to represent teens numbers. We are also working on the 2D shapes. Words:Our book this week from Reading A-Z for high frequency words was Will It Come? Our words were his, her, will, come. Benchmark Reading 3D testing: Reading 3D testing has started for the Middle of Year benchmark. The results of this testing will be available when the second quarter report card is sent home. Supplies and Help Needed: Over the next two weeks we will be learning about Winter, snow, and polar animals. To wrap up our unit, we will make homemade “snow” (icecream) with our third grade reading buddies. This is such a fun way to wrap up our learning! But we will need some supplies and a few volunteers to help make it happen. Please checkout our signup! We also desperately need BABY WIPES. Any donations of baby wipes would be appreciated! We use them all the time! IReady Diagnostic: Today we took the iReady Diagnostic Test for math. This is a computerized assessment that helps us to identify skills that students know or need instruction on for math. This assessment is taken by all elementary students in the county to inform instruction. For their first time taking an assessment on a computer, the kiddos really rocked it! I was very proud of them. New Playground: This week we began using our new playground purchased by the PTO. The kids absolutely love it! Thank you PTO! We have had a fun short week back! We enjoyed getting back into our routines and seeing each other after the break. In math we worked on measuring with non-standard objects. This is a fun skill to practice at home and you can use almost anything as your unit of measurement (legos, paperclips, pasta!).
