It's been a great week here in Kindergarten! Hard to believe that next week will be our last! End of Year Picnic: We will have our end of year picnic on Tuesday June 11 at 11:10. Bring a towel and a lunch and come celebrate all we have learned and how we have grown this year! If you are unable to attend, please still send your student with a towel to sit on. Book Baggies: Today will be the final night that students will bring home their books to read. But please continue to read over the summer! White Folders: White folders will go home for the last time Monday. There is no need to return them. Enjoy! ABC Countdown: Don’t forget to follow along with our calendar for the ABC Countdown. We will be doing something fun according to the calendar each of these last 26 days of school. It's been a great week here in Kindergarten! And what a great day at the zoo! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came and helped make this trip such a success! End of Year Picnic: We will have our end of year picnic on Tuesday June 11 at 11:10. Bring a towel and a lunch and come celebrate all we have learned and how we have grown this year! Book Buddies: We will be having an end of year celebration with our book buddies Wednesday June 12. The kids have loved getting to know each other this year and we will wrap it all up with a picnic. We would love to have fun Popsicles as part of the celebration. If you are willing to donate them please let me know! Also we will be going down to explore along the banks of our creek with our buddies following our picnic. This will only be getting our feet wet, so no need to have spare clothes, but please wear water shoes. We will be sending home a permission slip on Monday for this activity. In literacy we are working on opinion writing. Field Day: will be next Friday, May 24. Please be sure to send your student with good walking shoes on that day as there will be a lot of walking / running during activities. We released them today and had so much fun. It has also been a lovely Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you to everyone who helped make it so special! Especially Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Cosgrove for helping watch our class for the luncheon today. In math we continued working on number bonds and decomposing numbers. K Graduation pictures: Although we do not do a formal kindergarten graduation, we do take K graduation pictures where the students can wear a cap and gown. These pictures will be May 3 and order forms went home this week. K Music Program: Be sure to come out and enjoy the K music program on Thursday May second at 6. Doors open at 5:30 Postcard Challenge: As we prepare for our unit on Maps, we will be collecting postcards! Our goal is to collect a postcard from all 50 states. Postcards can be sent from your travels over spring break, from friends, family, or anyone you know willing to help us with this project. It's been a great week here in Kindergarten learning about Oviparous animals. We had a wonderful time doing our egg hunt! Thank you to everyone who sent in eggs and who volunteered to help make it happen! In math we are working on number bonds and decomposing numbers. In literacy we worked on publishing our latest How To writing on Adobe Spark. The kids worked so hard on their writing and were very proud to publish them digitally. Be on the lookout for an email from me with the link to watch your students’ work. Postcard Challenge: As we prepare for our unit on Maps, we will be collecting postcards! It's been a great week here in Kindergarten learning about spring and starting out unit on Oviparous animals. We are looking forward to capping it off next Friday with our egg hunt! In math we are continuing to work on subtraction and solving story problems. We also began working on number bonds and decomposing numbers. In literacy we worked on strategies to recognize facts in our nonfiction books. Words:Our book this week from Reading A-Z for high frequency words was Where Is IT? Our words were where, help. Oviparous Egg Hunt: For the Egg Hunt each student will need to send in 17 eggs. The eggs will need to be numbered on the outside from 1 to 17 in sharpie (great number writing practice!) and sealed with tape. The eggs can contain any treat (nut-free if it is a food) you like! I recommend some of the little trinkets from Oriental Trading or the Dollar Store, but you can do sealed candy as well. Also for the egg hunt, please send in a clean empty gallon jug. This could be from milk or juice. We will use them to make baskets for the hunt. Volunteers Needed: We still need one more volunteer to help hide our eggs! Our hunt will be on Friday April 12, and we will need out volunteers to arrive by 1:45. If you are able to help hide eggs please let me know. We are also continuing to work on combinations of ten. In literacy we worked on our Reader’s Theater performances and worked on book talks. In literacy we are working on reading familiar books with fluency and answering text dependant comprehension questions.
