Happy Friday Families!
We have been learning all about fall this week. We enjoyed going on a leaf hunt and managed to find some of the first fall leaves dropping. Letters: This week we continued learning letters, how to write them, and their sounds! We also learn their Letterland Character Name and the “letter cheers” that accompany each letter and its sound. We learned letters L, U, V, W, and X. Ask your student to show you how to write the letters and what their sounds and characters are! Ugliest Gourd Contest: We are having an Ugliest Gourd Contest! To get us in the spirit of the harvest season we will be collecting and celebrating gourds of all shapes, sizes, colors, and textures! This will be a great way to learn about harvest season and have some fun. The winner at the end of October will receive the Gourd Award! All entries are welcome! Information sheets went home today. Book Fair: Next week is the Book Fair! This is a great way to build your home library and support our school. A flyer went home this week previewing some of what will be available. Our classroom library day is Tuesday. All of our students will have a chance to shop during that time. If you would like to send in money for your student to shop any of the days it is here, please send it in a sealed envelope with their name. There are often items for sale that are not books (pencils, erasers, pads, etc) please indicate if your student’s money may be used to purchase those types of items or books only. Picture Day: Picture day is Tuesday Oct. 9th! Pictures can be purchased with the order form sent home, or by purchasing online through the photographer’s website by going to mylifetouch.com using picture ID: Hy618003Q0 RAZ Kids: This is an amazing resource that gives you the ability to access digital books that are on your child’s level. Please consider utilizing this resources as another great way to read at home with your student! Cougar Cards: The cards are for discounts at local establishments and are a great way to help support our school, so keep selling. :) Wear Blue: Wear blue Monday for bully awareness month. REMINDERS: Stepp Farm Field Trip: We will be going to Stepp Farm on Friday October 19. The cost of the trip will be $9. We will need volunteers to come with us to help. The cost for volunteers is $4. Snack: Please send a nut free snack with your child daily. Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! The books are delivered to the school and your purchase helps earn books and resources for our class. We have been enjoying learning about the 5 senses this week. We have particularly enjoyed our science experiments exploring each sense. Even smelling and tasting baby food today to guess the flavor! Ask your student to show you how to write the letters and what their sounds and characters are! Movie Night: Friday September 28 from 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm. K-2 will be watching Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and 3-5 will be watching Moana. The price is $15 for the first child and $5 for each additional child in the same family. Pizza will be provided. RAZ Kids: Next week your student will be bringing home information on how to access RAZ Kids from home. This is an amazing resource that gives you the ability to access digital books that are on your child’s level. They will have an account that can be accessed on any device. Please use this amazing resource to read with your child. It is also a great way to have some educational “screen time.” Their levels will be updated throughout the year. The best part is that not only can I access information on what they are reading and how well they are doing on the quizzes that accompany the books, but you as parents can too! Look on the information sheet for how to create your parent account. It has been another good week in kindergarten. Our trip to the fair was a great success! We saw tons of different farm animals, local photography and crafts, Cherokee dancers, and even some prize winning pumpkins. Thank you to all our parents who volunteered with us and sent in supplies! To help us learn about each sense, we will be doing some experiments. We will need some supplies to help us do this. Please check out our signup-genius and send in a jar of baby food to help make this happen. :) White Folders: Today your student brought home a white folder with recent work inside. It has been a great second week in kindergarten! We have enjoyed learning classroom routines and about friendship this week. Letters: This week we began learning letters, how to write them, and their sounds! We also learned their Letterland Character Name and the “letter cheers” that accompany each letter and its sound. Ask your child to show you their cheers or how to write the letters! We learned letters E, F, and D. Also check out the Letterland insert in their folder for more information about the characters. Fair Field Trip is on Thursday! Please be sure you have sent in your student’s $2 for the trip. Also be sure to send your student in sneakers because we will be doing a lot of walking. Upon arrival students will put on their HCPS class of 2033 t-shirts to wear on the trip. Thank you to all who have volunteered to accompany us! Class Need: For the field trip, we will need to eat snack on the road. We need a class donation of individual bags of goldfish. If you are able to help contribute packs of goldfish for this it would be appreciated! Because we will have a class snack this day, it is not necessary to pack an additional snack from home. Open house: Tuesday 9/11 from 6-7:00. There will be two opportunities to stop by our room and hear the information, one at 6:00 and at 6:30. I will go over all of the information in my welcome letter, as well as some other information about what kindergarten will look like this year in our classroom. Please choose one time to attend. Book Baggie: Students began bringing home their book baggies this week. This is a book for you to read with them each night and then return to school.
