Happy Friday Families!
Heritage Day was a complete success! We had a wonderful time exploring outdoors and learning about the ways of old. The children made corn-husk dolls, made homemade apple cider, and even rode in a horsedrawn wagon! This week we enjoyed learning about our 5 senses and completing science labs for each sense. Thank you to those who sent in baby food for us to taste and smell. We had a great time doing these labs! This week we continued learning letters, how to write them, their sounds, and their Letterland Character Name. Ask your child to show you their cheers or how to write the letters! We learned letters R, M, N, and H. Permission slips went home last week for our October trip to Stepp’s Orchard. Be sure to sign the permission slip and mark your student’s lunch choice. Please send in the $7.50 cost of the trip as soon as you can. Raz Kids information sheets went home today. We discussed this wonderful resource at Open House. In case you missed, I am asking everyone to help purchase a class subscription to this service. It is $6 per student and give you access to the Raz Kids platform. This has over 800 digital books that can be read on the computer or a device in the Raz Kids app. This app will be used in school and can also be used at home. Your child will see books that are on their level. Thank you for helping get this amazing resource for our class. Today your student brought home a bag of small pumpkins. These were donated our school. Attached to the bag is a letter explaining our project. It says: Families, this bag of pumpkins was donated to our school. I would like to use them to help decorate our room for the month of October. We will be studying Fall, harvesting, and pumpkins. Please use this bag of pumpkins to bring a book to life! The pumpkins can be decorated to represent characters, setting, or any other part of a book. This will be a fun family project. You can use the paint provided in the bag, or any other material you’d like (sharpies write well on pumpkins, and Pinterest is great for ideas). Be creative! Please send in your decorated pumpkin(s), and the coordinating book if possible, to our room on Monday October 2. We will keep them on display for the month of October, and then return them. Today your student brought home a white folder filled with recent work. Please sign and return the folder to school on Monday. You will keep the work inside. Here is a link to the Signup Genius for Mystery Reader, as discussed at Open House. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A49A8A62FA5F49-mystery School pictures will be on October 5th. We made it through our first week! You should all be proud of your students, they have done incredibly well this week! As I mentioned in my welcome letter, I will post weekly updates onto our class website, seropian.weebly.com each Friday. I will send out an email to remind you to check. This will be the only week I send home a paper copy of our update. If you do not have access to a device to read our update, please let me know. In your student’s Cougar Folder they received a permission slip for our first field trip to the Fair! This will be a wonderful experience! Be sure to sign the permission form and indicate what your child will do for lunch that day. If you decide to pack, please be sure it is an ALL disposable lunch. Please let me know if you are interested in going with our class as a volunteer. Starting next week, be on the lookout for your student to bring home their Book Baggie. This will be a book for you to read with them each night. Please sign the reading log to indicate that you have read with them. I will be sending home a letter next week in Cougar Folders with some tips for reading with your child. The supply list for kindergarten was a generic list, and it included a towel. In our classroom we will not utilize the towels, and I have sent them home. We will have quiet-time during our Read Alouds, but will not need the towels. In your student’s Cougar Folder was a Scholastic Book Magazine. Scholastic is a wonderful place to find great, reasonably priced, children’s books to build your home library. The best part is that when parents order, you earn points for our classroom to purchase new books as well! It is a great way to support our class. To order you simply go to Scholastic’s website. If you have never ordered, you will go to scholastic.com/newparent My class code is RD4R8 You will enter our class code when you order. I will place our class order at the end of each month. The books are delivered to the school. Monday September 11 through Friday September 15, we will have a Goodwill Truck at school as a fundraiser. For every pound of donations our school will receive $0.25. It is a great time to clean out any unwanted items and help our school out in the process! This week your student brought home a greem permission slip for Heritage Day. We will take one parent volunteer with us. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. Please return the permission slip as soon as possible. No school Monday! Mrs. Seropian |
