Happy Friday Families!
This week we enjoyed learning about the butterfly life cycle. We even used paint to create a symmetrical butterfly. Spring Carnival: I hope to see you all tonight at the Spring Carnival from 5-7! It will be loads of fun. ABC Countdown: Today your students brought home an ABC countdown calendar. To help us countdown to the end of kindergarten the final 26 days will be themed. This is a very fun activity. To help us complete it we will need a few things. If you would be willing to donate ice cream for our 21 students for “I day,” May 15 please let me know. Also, for “P Day” we will be pirates and hunt for treasure. Please send in 21 small treasures for us to fill the treasure chest with. Think things like small plastic toys, stamps, jewels, etc. Oriental Trading is a great place to look for inexpensive treasures. Kindergarten and first grade program: For our program on Thursday, please have your student wear a white shirt and tan, khaki, brown or blue jean shorts. The program will be from 6-7:00. Asheville Tourists: We will be going to the Asheville Tourists game on May 23. On Monday your student will be bringing home a permission form; please sign and return it. Classroom Need: We are in need of Crayola Tempera Paint. We use this daily in our art center as well as for art projects. It can be purchased on Amazon here. We need all colors, but we are completely out of yellow, green, black, pink, and brown. REMINDERS: Snack: Please send a snack with your child daily. Water Bottles: Please send your student to school with a water bottle so that they have access to water throughout the day. Also, please be sure that the bottle closes securely to avoid any leaks! RAZ Kids: Don’t forget to utilize your child’s subscription to RAZ kids at home! Such a great resource for extra reading at home. Reading Reef: Please continue working on this at home. Don’t forget that in the Information tab of our website, you will find a pdf with flashcards for the words. Some fun ideas for games include, printing 2 copies and playing memory, go fish, or uno. Happy Fishing! Box Tops! Keep sending in your box tops! Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! My class code is RD4R8 You will enter our class code when you order. I will place our class order at the end of each month. The books are delivered to the school and your purchase helps earn books and resources for our class. Have a great weekend, Mrs. Seropian and Mrs. Holbert

Happy Friday Families!
This week we enjoyed focusing on our postcard project and learning the 50 states! We will continue adding states to our map up until the end of the year, so keep them coming! We are learning the 50 Nifty United States Song, and many students are well on their way to knowing all the states! Cap and Gown Pictures: We took cap and gown pictures today that I think turned out precious! Just to clarify, we are not having a graduation ceremony at Atkinson for kindergarten, just the pictures. For our class celebration we will have a family picnic followed by a small party in our classroom. Spring Carnival: In your student’s folder is a flyer about the spring carnival! This event will be lots of fun. Be sure to follow along with the Spirit Week’s dress next week, starting off with favorite sports teams on Monday. Rotary Event: A message from Jan King, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction: Many of our HCPS schools and classrooms have benefited from the local Rotary Teacher Grants program over the years. Last year alone, those grants totaled $25,000 and impacted 14 different HCPS schools. The local Rotary club raises the funds via their May 5th events, the one mile "Waddle" and the Lucky Duck Drop. The more money they raise, the more grants they are able to award. https://squareup.com/store/rotaryDuck/ Classroom Need: We are in need of a new stash of “emergency” snacks for students who forget a snack. We have had an increase recently in students needing snacks and have nearly run out! Any prepackaged snack like granola bars, goldfish, or pretzels would be appreciated. REMINDERS: Snack: Please send a snack with your child daily. Water Bottles: Please send your student to school with a water bottle so that they have access to water throughout the day. This week we enjoyed our Peeps science unit! We loved discovering how Peeps reacted to being heated, cooled, left out, and dissolved. We particularly enjoyed mixing their colors and creating a fizzy reaction with baking soda and vinegar; oh and of course tasting them! Thank you to everyone who sent in Peeps to help make this happen. Oviparous Egg Hunt: We loved our egg hunt! The kiddos made chicken-baskets to collect their eggs so she could “incubate” the eggs while they hunted. It was great fun! Thank you to all who sent in supplies and volunteered to help make this happen. Nightly Reading: We are entering our final push for the year (can you believe it's almost over?) and it is important to continue nightly reading! All of your students are working so hard and becoming great readers, please continue to support this with reading at home. It is great to stop and ask your student about what they are reading; who are the characters; what is the setting; how do you think ____ feels; why do you think ____ is happening, etc Helping your child to think more deeply about the story is a great way to enrich their learning at home. Postcards: Our post card challenge is off to a good start! We are working on learning the 50 states and every post card helps so keep them coming! REMINDERS: Snack: Please send a snack with your child daily. Water Bottles: Please send your student to school with a water bottle so that they have access to water throughout the day.
