Happy Friday Families!
This week we celebrated the 100th day of school. We enjoyed all things 100, including writing about what we will do when we reach 100. We were inspired by a photo of the kids looking 100. They are posted by are door, and if you are in the building they are worth a look. So cute! They also enjoyed making our 100 snack, and counting out 100 pieces of snack. Thanks to those who sent in supplies! Reading Reef: Our latest challenge is our Reading Reef! We have transformed one of the doors in our classroom into a coral reef, but it is missing fish. Students will have the chance to earn different fish to add to the reef by fluently reading different lists of sight words. List A went home today. When your student can fluently read (*within a second or 2) all of the words on the list, in any order, sign and return it. When we check and they are successful, they earn a fish for the reef. Each list A-D will correspond to a different type of fish. This is meant to be a fun way to encourage sight word recognition. In the Information tab of our website, you will find a pdf with flashcards for the words. Some fun ideas for games include, printing 2 copies and playing memory, go fish, or uno. Happy Fishing! Valentines Day Celebration:. The kids loved our Valentines Celebration and thanks to all who volunteered, sent in supplies, and helped make this happen! Variety Show: Atkinson will be hosting its annual Variety Show on Thursday March 22. If students are interested in participating, a letter went home today with more details. Registration forms must be in by Feb 19. Box Tops! Keep sending in your box tops! Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! This week we continued our Non Fiction unit in Reading and in writing we continued writing our How To books. We also talked about Dental Health this week. Today we met with our new 3rd grade reading buddies, Ms. Jackson’s class. We really enjoyed having the big kids read and spend time with us. Reading Logs: On Monday your students will bring home new reading logs. These logs have the dates pre-filled for nightly reading. I cannot express how important it is that you read nightly with your child. It is essential to their success. If you are able to, I highly recommend getting even more practice using our class subscription to RAZ kids. Please remember that while the new monthly BINGO challenges are fun, they are in addition to reading your child’s baggie book each night. Valentines Day: Wednesday is our class Friendship Celebration, and in honor of Valentines Day, your student may bring in Valentines to pass out to the class. Please be sure if they bring any, that they have one for everyone. I send home a list with student’s names earlier this week. 100th day! Wednesday 2/14 is also the 100th day of school! We will be celebrating all week long with 100 themed activities. Please signup for an item for our 100th day snack (which we will do on Friday 2/16) if you have not already. Thank you to those who have already sent items in! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a49a8a62fa5f49-100th 100th day project: Information sheets went home this week about the 100th day project. This is a chance for your student to collect 100 of something and present it to the class. It could be as simple as counting 100 cheerios into a baggie, or as creative as making a shirt with 100 jewels. Pinterest has great ideas if you get stuck. This is a fun family project, just be sure your student does the counting! Bring it in by the 14th. Variety Show: Atkinson will be hosting its annual Variety Show on Thursday March 22. If students are interested in participating, a letter went home today with more details. Registration forms must be in by Feb 19. White folders: White folders went home today. Please review the work inside the folder, sign and return it. Jackets: Please be sure that your student is wearing a proper jacket every day. Our assigned recess time is in the morning, when it is still frequently only in the mid 30s. Box Tops! Keep sending in your box tops! Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! My class code is RD4R8 You will enter our class code when you order. I will place our class order at the end of each month. The books are delivered to the school and your purchase helps earn books and resources for our class. Classroom Need: Mrs. Holbert and I only have one pair of “adult” scissors and could really use another pair, if possible :) Have a great weekend! Mrs. Seropian and Mrs. Holbert |
