We have had a great short week learning about pumpkins and fall. Letters: This week we continued learning letters, how to write them, and their sounds! We are working on writing the lowercase letters. We are still working on the Letterland characters and letter cheers. We learned letters a, d, g, u, e, l, k, y, and j. Please use the yellow letter formation sheet sent home last week as a reference for correct letter formation and to practice at home. Words:Our book this week (which you may recognize if your student selected to bring it home in their book baggie) from Reading A-Z high frequency words was They Look. Our words were they and for. Earn A Feather: As we prepare for our Lunch and Lead on November 15 we will be conducting our Earn A Feather challenge. In the spirit of the Native American tradition of earning feathers for their headdress for important tribe contributions, students will be earning feathers for mastering skills. A sheet went home today detailing what skills we are looking for. When a child masters a skill at home you will initial the paper and return it to school. I will assess the skill and initial when it is demonstrated at school. This will all lead up to our feather ceremony at lunch and lead and you will get to help your student create their headdress. Please send in a brown paper bag. We will be using them for the event. Twitter: I am considering starting a class Twitter feed to occasionally share pics of fun events and activities in class. First Quarter Conferences: A conference with all parents / guardians is required for first quarter. Please sign up for a conference here. Makeup Pictures: November 13 is makeup picture day. Shrek Junior: We will be going to see the play Shrek Junior. Permission slips went home today. The cost to students is $2. Because of limited seating, parents will not be able to accompany our class. Trails and Treats: Atkinson will be participating in the Trails and Treats fundraiser at Camp Tekoa on Sunday Oct 28. A flyer was sent home with the details of this great Trick-or-Treating event. REMINDERS: Book Character Day: On October 31 Atkinson will be having a Book Character day! Encourage your student to dress up like any book character that day. Please be sure they bring in their book with them! RAZ Kids: This is an amazing resource that gives you the ability to access digital books that are on your child’s level. Please consider utilizing this resources as another great way to read at home with your student! Snack: Please send a nut free snack with your child daily. Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! My class code is RD4R8 You will enter our class code when you order. I will place our class order at the end of each month. The books are delivered to the school and your purchase helps earn books and resources for our class. We have been learning about apples. We particularly enjoyed our trip to Stepp Farm today. We got to pick apples, take a wagon ride, and even sample apples and cider! REMINDERS: Ugliest Gourd Contest: Don’t forget to keep an eye out for a great ugly gourd. The winner at the end of October will receive the Gourd Award! All entries are welcome!
