Happy Friday Families!
What a fun week we have had learning about apples! The kids loved our apple tasting today. Thank you to all who helped make it happen! Next week we will be talking about the 5 senses. This weekend feel free to start to discuss all the things our 5 senses do for us. Monday Oct 3 there is no school. And Oct 5 is picture day. Today your students brought home a white folder. The folder is filled with some of their work from the past few weeks. Please look over the work inside and sign the folder. You will keep the work and return the folder. I will send these folder home about every other week, and always on Friday. We are working on recognizing our “word wall words’ (words that we have learned and worked on as a class) in our books. When reading with your students, they may not be ready to read the full page, but you can encourage them to look for any “word wall words” that they know. This is a strategy we have been working on during Reader’s Workshop. Have a great long weekend! Mrs. Seropian

Happy Friday Families!
It has been another great week here at Selwyn. Given recent events, it is great to know that we have a wonderful and strong school community to return to each day. If you missed Open House last night, the slideshow is posted under the “Information” tab. Feel free to look through it, and let me know if you have any remaining questions. Next week we will begin studying Fall and apples! Next week I will place our class Scholastic order. I will always place our order at the end of the month. I do this so that the combined totals of purchases will hopefully qualify us for free shipping. My teacher code is P6TQZ and you can order online through the Scholastic website. Progress Reports will be going home on Wednesday. For the beginning of kindergarten your students will only receive grades on social and emotional standards. Today in your child’s take home folder was the order form for picture day, which will be October 5. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Seropian Happy Friday Families!
It has been a great week in kindergarten! Your students are beginning to settle into our kindergarten routine and learn our procedures. They have already learned a lot! In your student’s take home folder, you received an information sheet with some tips and suggestions for reading your student’s book-baggie book with them at night. Please help your student to return the book, baggie, and log to their backpack each night. Your student also got a scholastic flyer in their take home folder today. Scholastic is a great way to add books to your home library while helping add to our class library. As you purchase books our classroom earns points towards books! My teacher code is P6TQZ and you can order online through the Scholastic website with my code. Red Ribbon Reading information packets also came home today. If your child participated in this wonderful program for our school please be sure to send in their reading log and any pledges they have collected. Administration has asked us to encourage parents to refrain from walking students to class beginning next week. There will continue to be adults in the hallways to ensure that students are making it to class. If you are not, I highly encourage you to have your child pack and unpack their bookbag at home. The practice at home helps them at school and makes the morning and afternoon dismissal run more smoothly. If you pack your child’s lunch I recommend practicing packing the lunch box up and opening / closing the things inside, like tupperware and gummy packs. While there are adults in the cafeteria to help with this, it helps your child to get the maximum time to eat their lunch. I look forward to seeing all of you at Curriculum Night on September 22. If you have any questions before then, just let me know. --Mrs. Seropian The first week of kindergarten has already come and gone!
Today was our first day together as a whole class, and it went great! Despite the rain and morning with no air, we were all smiles. All of your students are doing a great job learning our schedule and routines. Our main goal right now is to learn about Selwyn and our class routines. We are also working on recognizing our names and all becoming friends. The blue plastic Selwyn folder will be our daily communication folder. Please be sure that you look through the folder each day and return it to school. Any notes should be put in this folder. This includes transportation changes which MUST be sent in as a written note. Our classroom will be nut free this year. That means that NO snacks sent in for snack time may contain nuts, this includes both peanuts and tree nuts. You may pack nuts in your child's lunch and they will sit at our class' designated nut table. If you choose to bring in a treat for the class (like a birthday treat to give out at lunch) it must be store bought and nut free. This is for the safety of the students in our room that have nut allergies. Next week your child will begin taking home a book to read nightly. I will be sending home an information sheet about this in their blue folders. For the first few weeks our primary goal will be establishing the routine of taking a book home to read and returning it to school. You may find that the book is easy for your student to read, but that is ok! Our goal at first is confidence in the routine. Please let me know if you have any questions! I look forward to seeing everyone back next week. Enjoy the holiday weekend! Christine Seropian |
