Happy Friday Families!
We have had another great week here in Kindergarten learning about animal habitats. We talked about how some animals benefit the soil they live in, like worms, and even collected dirt samples to examine! In math we are working on subtraction and using it to solve story problems. We are also continuing to work on combinations of ten. In literacy we worked on our Reader’s Theater performances and worked on book talks. Words:Our book this week from Reading A-Z for high frequency words was Each Will Get. Our words were each, them, get, from, find, many. Doughnuts and Discussions: What a success! I am so glad that some of you were able to come out and enjoy our Reader’s Theater performance of Mrs. Wishy Washy. The kids worked so hard and put on a fabulous show. Oviparous Egg Hunt: Next week we will be starting our unit on Oviparous Animals in preparation for our annual Egg Hunt! For the Egg Hunt each student will need to send in 17 eggs. The eggs will need to be numbered on the outside from 1 to 17 in sharpie (great number writing practice!). The eggs can contain any treat (nut-free if it is a food) you like! I recommend some of the little trinkets from Oriental Trading or the Dollar Store, but you can do sealed candy as well. Also for the egg hunt, please send in a clean empty gallon jug. This could be from milk or juice. We will use them to make baskets for the hunt. Volunteers Needed: We will need 3 volunteers to help hide our eggs! Our hunt will be on Friday April 12. If you are able to help hide eggs please let me know. This event is dependent on parent volunteers being able to hide eggs and it is so much fun. Reading Reef: Reminder that there are flashcards for the words available to print from our class website, under the information section. If you do not have access to a printer and would like a set, please let me know. When your student has mastered the words, sign and return the sheet. If they demonstrate for us that they know the words, they will earn a fish for our reef! There are 4 word lists, each with a different fish earned for the reef. This challenge will go through May, so there is time to practice :) Spring Pictures: Are April 9. This will be for individual portraits and class. Zoo: We are going to the zoo on May 31! For our final field trip of the year we will be traveling to the Greenville Zoo. This will be a great experience. Please sign the permission slip, make a lunch selection for your student, and send in the $11 cost as soon as possible. If you would like to volunteer please let me know. $7.25 for volunteers, and you will need to meet at school at 8:00 and then plan to follow the bus. REMINDERS: Scholastic: Don’t forget to place your scholastic order to help support our classroom library! My class code is RD4R8 You will enter our class code when you order. I will place our class order at the end of each month. The books are delivered to the school and your purchase helps earn books and resources for our class. RAZ Kids: This is an amazing resource that gives you the ability to access digital books that are on your child’s level. Please consider utilizing this resources as another great way to read at home with your student! Snack: Please send a nut free snack with your child daily. Water Bottles: Please send your student to school with a water bottle so that they have access to water throughout the day. Also, please be sure that the bottle closes securely to avoid any leaks! Box Tops: Our school collects box tops! This is a great fundraiser, please send them in! Have a great weekend, Mrs. Seropian
